Obituary for Edna C Hay

Edna “Kitty” C. Hay passed away on Wednesday, March 3rd, 2021, at the age 91 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick, NJ. She was born Edna Catherine Lawless on September 22, 1929 in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. She graduated Julia Richmond High school in New York City and went on to work first as a stenographer, then advanced to secretary to the president at the Underwood Typewriter Company. While her husband was stationed at Fort Myer in Arlington, Virginia, Edna worked as a secretary for the American Red Cross in Washington, DC.
Edna met her husband and only love, Gil, on the subway in Brooklyn, New York. They married and she embraced the adventurous life and travels of an army wife. A devoted mother, Edna was also a member of the Jersey Shore Running club and liked to volunteer at some of the races. She enjoyed keeping her mind sharp with crossword puzzles, loved roses and Sunday afternoon drives. Edna attended religious services at St. Michael’s church in Long Branch, New Jersey.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gilbert E. Hay, in 2007; her two brothers, John and William; and three sisters Cecelia, Agnes and Julia. Surviving are her two daughters Barbara A. Hay and Debrajean Hay; grandson, Gilbert C. Hay and Edna’s constant and faithful companion, Rusty; all of Lakewood.
Visitation is Wednesday, March 10th, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Rd. Oakhurst, NJ with a funeral service to follow at 12 noon. Interment and funeral mass will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date to be announced.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that contributions in Edna’s name be made to the Military Oder of the Purple Heart.
