Obituary for Donald A. Ponsi

Donald Albert Ponsi, 67, of Eatontown, passed away in his home on Saturday, October 1, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was born and raised in Leonia, NJ and lived in Long Branch, NJ for most of his adult life. He graduated from Leonia High School in 1967 and received a Bachelors of Science degree in Mathematics from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He taught mathematics for 40 years at Monsignor Donovan High School in Toms River, Jackson Memorial and Jackson Liberty High Schools in Jackson. He was much beloved by his students inspiring a number to follow in his footsteps. He made friends easily wherever he went, as he was always willing to help others and was known for his unique sense of humor.
Donald had a passion for numerous activities including collecting trading cars and coins, playing fantasy football, playing adventure and strategy video games (Final Fantasy and Liberty or Death), Harry Potter books and wands, and attending Renaissance Faires (particularly as a Joey and Pop Pop activity).
Donald is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Carmella Stellato Ponsi.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; his son, Adam and his fiancé Linda Gomes; his daughter, Courtney; his seven brothers Lou and wife Lorri, Bob and wife Candy, Joe and wife Rosalie, Steve and wife Sue, Eddie and wife Laura, John and wife Linda, Tom, and by his many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 2-4 & 7-9 pm Wednesday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 882 Broadway, West Long Branch.
