Dennis L. Burtis, 74, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2021, in hospice care at Jersey Shore Medical Center. He was born to the late Hilda and Donald Burtis of Maywood, NJ and was predeceased by his beloved wife, Melody Burtis. Dennis graduated from Bergen Catholic ‘64 and Montclair State University ‘68. He taught at Tappan Zee High School and was later a lector at “The Church of the Presentation”. He also enjoyed the beach, golf, gardening, cycling, and swimming. In addition, he had an admiration for music and a love for cars. Surviving are his brother, Donald Burtis, sister-in-law, Daryl Burtis, nephew, Donald Burtis Jr, nieces, Cristin Burtis and Valerie Moran, their spouses, and his seven great-nieces and great-nephews. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital or “Church of the Presentation” in his memory. A mass will be offered at “Church of the Presentation” in Upper Saddle River on September 14, 2021, at 11:15 am. Buckley Funeral Home 509 Second Ave Asbury Park is in charge of arrangements.
