Obituary for Basil Markow

Basil Markow, a scientist known among his friends and acquaintances as a true Renaissance man, died at home in NJ on Friday, April 2, 2021. He was 97 years old two months before his 98th birthday. Trained as a Nuclear Physicist and Mathematician, he spent most of his professional life working for the U.S. Army at Fort Monmouth NJ. His non-work time at home in N.J. and Key West, Florida was devoted to being an astro-physics aficionado, playing several musical instruments as well as a licensed pilot, sailor, ocean diver, linguist (spoke Spanish, French, German, Ukrainian, Russian), world traveler, adoring husband to his wife Roberta Markow, and doting father, grandfather, and uncle. His lifetime personal project and goal was the development of Eschaton Associates, a religion based on scientific principles.

Born in Borschov Ukraine, he came to the United States as an infant, grew up in Manhattan, and received his education at the Bronx School of Science, Lafayette College, and Fairleigh Dickenson University. Up until shortly before his death, he displayed an insatiable intellectual curiosity about the world around him that made him a fascinating conversationalist and self-driven researcher and writer of scientific abstracts, particularly about the relationship of science and religion and the origins of the universe.

He is survived by his wife Roberta Rubin Markow (Oakhurst), son Basil Markow Jr. (Manasquan), step children Isa Fowler (Mark), Jennifer Krimko (Interlaken) and Kara Clark (Oakhurst), grandchildren Jasiah Fowler, Eli Clark, Kayden Clark, and Landon Clark, his loving nephew, friend, confidant Zeno Streletz (Pennsylvania) and many other dear nieces and nephews in Pennsylvania and Florida.

Private arrangements entrusted to Fiore Funeral Home, Oakhurst NJ. Since Basil was a passionate animal lover the family appreciates donations to your favorite animal rescue organization in his name. For condolences, please visit www.fiorefuneralhomes.com.
