Obituary for Barbara A. Hunt

Barbara A. Hunt, 71 of LONG BRANCH, died peacefully surrounded by her children on Tuesday November 29, 2022, at Palmetto General Hospital, Miami, Florida.

Barbara (Slow-Walker) was born at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, NJ on June 26, 1951 to the late Rossi Lee Hunter and Katie R. Shepard Hunter. She graduated from Long Branch High School in 1969 where she participated in various extracurricular activities and clubs including the marching band and cheerleading. Barbara attended Brookdale Community College prior to starting her career at Concurrent Computers (Perkin & Elmer) in West Long Branch, NJ. Later, Barbara also worked at Fort Monmouth (Youth Division) prior to transitioning to the Long Branch School System where she taught children for 24 years retiring in 2016. She was a member of Trinity AME Church & Second Baptist Church (Nurse’s Guild, Usher Board, Choir), the Order of Eastern Star (Matron), Daughter of Sphinx (Most Worthy Grand Matron & Most Worthy Vice Grand Matron), The Order of Calanthians, The Monmouth County Cotillion (Committee Member), LB Soul Control Drill Team (Co-Founder), Adult Softball and bowling teams (Ft Monmouth and Long Branch).

Barbara is predeceased by her parents the late Rossi Lee Hunter and Katie R. Shepard Hunter; her husband Otis John Hunt Sr.; her brother Rossi Hunter Jr.; sisters Riner Anderson and Sherria Jackson.

Barbara leaves to cherish her memory three daughters; Enye Carter-Neville, O’kisha Guimbard of FL (Luis Guimbard), Mechelle Hunter of TN; one son Otis John Hunt Jr. of AZ (Kiesha Wilson); two brothers, Charles Hunter of DE (Elaine Hunter), Elder Febus Salem, AM of PA (LaReita Hunter); one sister Stacy Calderon of DE (Wayne Calderon); 8 Grandchildren, Juwaan, Teana, Trey’Von, Kendall, Teairra, Jaiden, Kai’lani, Bria and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, Godchildren and friends.

During her lengthy illness Our mom never lost her faith but remained prayerful and steadfast in knowing that Jesus Christ was her friend and constant companion and that one day she would be called from labor on earth to home in heaven. Mom, we love you rest in paradise. Lovingly, your children.
