Obituary for Angelina Marie Capone

Angelina Marie Capone, passed away at home on 2 November 2019 in Sea Girt, New Jersey. “Marie”, as she was known by her family and friends, was the oldest daughter of Josephine and Sebastian (Nino) deNicola. She was born December 22, 1925, grew up in Maplewood, NJ and attended Columbia High School. She spent many happy summers in her youth on the Jersey shore in Shark River Hills and Metedeconk before her father, a carpenter and contractor, built a summer house for his family in Sea Girt. She met her husband to be, Louis (Lou) J. Capone in the late 1930s. Lou joined the US Coast Guard and served in the Pacific during WWII returning in 1945. They married on June 11, 1949. Two children soon followed and they lived in Newark, NJ for their early years, spending summer weekends in Long Branch and Sea Girt.
Marie loved the Jersey shore where her father built her three houses! In 1963 she and the family moved full time to Long Branch and from there to a beautiful abode in West Long Branch in 1966. Marie and Lou later moved to the original Sea Girt home in 1995. They also bought a small house in the Spanish Lakes Community in Fort Pierce, where they spent many winters and developed another cadre of close friends and neighbors.
Marie, also known as Grandma and Giga to her grandkids and great grandkids, was a strong force and full of spunk and spark. Being with people energized her and family and close friends were everything to her. She loved and was loved by her family (including many cousins on both sides) and friends - of which she had a wide network. She was one of a group of 6 graduates from Columbia High that stayed close and got together regularly for 70 years. Her home was always open and she delighted in hosting social gatherings as well as attending them. Bringing her family together brought her much joy: the tradition of her Sunday family dinners is legendary and maintained by many in her family. As a host, she had such a special touch to make you feel welcome and cared for. She was so incredibly devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren spent many summers down on the shore with her which helped to develop strong bonds with all of them. She loved to share and remember and her stories of her youth were always engaging. A favorite expression of hers was “children are the best people”.
Marie was pre-deceased by her husband, Louis (2012). She is survived by her 2 children, Douglas of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA and Francene a longtime resident of West Long Branch, 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
She will be interred with her husband on 22 Nov 2019 at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery. A Mass will be held at St Michael’s Catholic Church in Long Branch, NJ at 1030 am that morning in accordance with Marie’s beliefs that sustained her and comforted her as she waited for God’s time to go. “But when”, she often asked and smiled.
Special thanks to her wonderful group of caregivers this past year: Susan, Shannon, Vivian, Susanna and Flavia and to Grace Hospice for keeping her happy at home.
Donations in her name can be made to Family Resource Associates, 210 Newman Springs Road, Red Bank, NJ 07701. Condolences for the family may be left at www.fiorefuneralhomes.com
