Angelina D. Calabrese “Angie”, 97 of West Long Branch, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday February 18, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Long Branch and graduated from Long Branch High School. She married Joseph Calabrese on his return from WWII. They later moved to West Long Branch where they spent the rest of their lives.
She was a homemaker and a longtime parimutuel clerk for 36 years at Monmouth Park racetrack. She served as secretary for Deborah Hospital for fund raising events including donations.
In high school she played multiple sports. She was a champion golfer, winning two ladies club championships at Old Orchard Golf Club including Presidents Cup women's champion. She bowled as a member of the West Long Branch Bowlettes for many years. She was named by the Asbury Park Press as athlete of the week.
She loved and enjoyed her family, doing taxes, her Hummel collecting, all of her cats, including her cat Sonny, and helping friends in need. She loved golf, going on cruises every year, football, the racetrack, the Yankees, Atlantic City trips, and doing daily puzzles. She was loved by all for her Christmas cookies and feeding friends and family. She was a beloved and very giving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, and aunt.
Angie is survived by her son Robert Calabrese, her daughter Marilyn Greenwood and son in law Dennis Greenwood, their daughter Deanna Fortunato and husband John Fortunato, and their sons Luca and Giovanni. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Joe Calabrese in 2006.
Visitation will be held at Fiore Funeral Home at 882 Broadway in West Long Branch on Thursday February 23rd from 4-7pm. The funeral ceremony will be held at Fiore’s on Friday February 24th at 11am followed by entombment at Woodbine Mausoleum in Oceanport.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to Deborah Heart and Lung Center or Associated Humane Society in her name would honor her.
