Obituary for Henry E Rose Jr.

Henry “Hank” Ernest Rose, 86, of West Long Branch, NJ passed away quietly on May 10th at CareOne in Jackson, NJ.

Hank was born on July 21st, 1933 to Henry and Florence (Masterson) Rose in New York, NY. He grew up in Teaneck, NJ graduating from Teaneck High School in 1951. He went on to college and graduated from Columbia University in 1958 with a Bachelor degree in Pre-Med.

Not long after graduation he went to work in the emerging field of computer technology as a government contractor with System Development Corporation (SDC) where he worked on US Army, Department of Defense projects. His employment with SDC took him to Santa Monica, CA in 1964 where he worked and resided until 1972 when he returned to NJ. He then settled in West Long Branch while continuing to work for SDC. In the early 1990's he founded his own company, HEROS, which also specialized in US Army defense projects. He later worked for Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) until he retired in 2005.

Hank enjoyed the simple things in life. A Grenadier cigar or a pipe filled with Captain Black, a well-made cocktail and relaxing in “Dad's” chair were among those things. Life was even better if he could be doing those things in the Pocono Mountains where he spent most every August. He enjoyed taking family members on any number of adventures via long car rides. More than anything else in the world however, Henry loved his family and enjoyed spending as much time as possible with them. He was a parishioner of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church.

Surviving Henry are his six children; Lisa Bonawitz, Henry E. Rose III, Darren Rose, Brandon Rose, Amanda Rose & Melanie Sgalambro, along with numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his sister, Diane Kinney.

He is predeceased by his parents, his sister June Dvorovy, his brother Edward Rose, and his loving wife of 41 years, Claudia, who passed away on April 22nd.

A private ceremony will be held in his honor on Monday, May 18, 2020 at Glenwood Cemetery in West Long Branch. There will be a life celebration at a later date when we can all be together again.

In lieu of flowers or donations the family would ask that you consider planting a tree in his honor
