Obituary for Paul Sollitti

Paul Sollitti Ph.D., 61, of Ocean Township, died on Thursday, May 31, 2018 surrounded by his family at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch.
He was born and raised in the Marion section of Jersey City before moving to Ocean Township in 1999.
Paul was a communicant of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in West End, Long Branch. Additionally, he was a member of the IAATO (Italian American Association of the Township of Ocean), Central Jersey Rifle & Pistol Club in Jackson, and Fort Dix Range #14. He was a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment and a benefactor of the NRA and a national training counselor in addition to being a Chief Range Safety Officer. Paul was also a member of numerous scientific professional societies, including ASB&B, ASM and AAB.
He had previously worked at the Blood Center in Paramus and owned IDNA Systems INC. Most recently he was the owner and founder of NJ Arms in Ocean Township. Paul was a faculty member of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine for 15 years where he did his post-doc fellowship under Dr. Julius Marmur, a pioneer in molecular biology. He received an MBA from Monmouth University and his PhD from Rutgers University in molecular biology in the Department of Zoology & Physiology under Dr. Robert Chesney. He was a graduate of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary School and Hudson Catholic High School, both in Jersey City. In his leisure time, Paul enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He was well versed in almost all topics, never failing to come up with a solution to any problem or question.
He was predeceased by his parents, George and Concetta (Clemetito) Sollitti; brother, Daniel Sollitti; sister, Lucille Trombetta and half-sister, Antoinette Miele. Surviving are his wife, Dr. Rosemary P. Fiore; daughter, Amy C. Sollitti; nephew, JCPD Deputy Chief Daniel Sollitti and his wife Lucia; niece, Lisa Collins and her husband JCPD Patrolman Robert; a grandnephew, Daniel Sollitti; 2 grandnieces, Nicole Alfano and her husband Frank and Gianna Sollitti; a great-niece, Adriana Alfano; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David Fiore and Dr. Frances Fittanto Fiore and his grandratties, Marshmallow, Fluff and Creme.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 2-4 & 7-9 pm Sunday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township. Funeral Mass will be offered at 10 am Monday at St. Michael’s Church, 800 Ocean Avenue, West End, Long Branch. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Totowa. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to a charity of choice.
