The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Maria Harkis can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Condolence: My deepest condolences to Dimitri, and family. "My Lady", as I affectionately called her, will always have a special place in my heart. She taught me so many wonderful recipes, and we shared many wonderful moments. She was such a strong woman, I will miss her dearly.....

Condolence: My sincere condolences to Maria’s family. It’s so hard to see someone fall asleep in death when they’re so young. But Maria isn’t suffering. She’s resting in peace. May the God of Comfort provide the needed comfort and strength during these difficult times. Turn and rely on the Hearer of Prayer (Psalms 65:2). Treasure the precious memories.

Condolence: The news of Maria's passing comes as a great shock to me! It had just occurred to me in recent weeks to try to find her and reach out to her, and I finally came upon a facebook page that convinced me this was the Maria I knew, so I left a message.

Maria and I were friends at NJIT. She came to my attention on Day One of classes, with her coffee mug from SLC! I immediately told her I'd lived there for over three years, had also attended Skyline High School, and we became fast friends. She had been at my house in Scotch Plains, and she took me to a Greek restaurant in Astoria. Maria struck me exactly as described in the obit -- she was as sure of herself as she was of her desire to study architecture! I was there only for a year, then had to take a leave of absence due to illness, which also prevented me from keeping in touch! When she didn't return my facebook message, something prompted me to search the obits! What a shock to find they were placed only hours ago!

I am terribly saddened to find I won't be able to pick up our friendship, and to learn that this bright light has gone out! Please accept my sincere condolences for your great loss. If I lived closer I would definitely come! I am so deeply sorry...
