Obituary for Martha A. Crowell

Martha A. Crowell, 76, died on Tuesday, April 19, 2016. Born Martha Cosentino, she loved her Jersey Shore roots. She grew up in West Long Branch, the daughter of public servants: Josephine, a nurse, and Anthony, the Borough's Fire Chief. She graduated from Long Branch High School in 1957 where she was the marching band's drum majorette.‎ She graduated from the Berkeley School of Business in East Orange and served as an administrator for more than a decade at Fort Monmouth, working under the direction of high ranking officers. It was there she met the love of her life and future husband, William Crowell. They married in 1961 and spent 55 years together. After leaving the Fort, she worked tirelessly in the home, proudly raising their two children: Anthony, the Dean and President of New York Law School, and William, a social worker. Martha epitomized angelic selflessness, and was known widely for her kindness, generosity, and thoughtfulness both in word and deed. She enjoyed traveling with her family, whether from Florida to Maine, or New Jersey to California; reading books with them and visiting public libraries; and playing board and word games. In addition to her husband and sons, she is survived by her ‎sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Donald Welcome, and a daughter-in-law Diana Crowell.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 3:30 pm to 7 pm Friday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township.
