Obituary for Philip J. Martinez

Philip J. Martinez, 90, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. Born in Bayonne, he lived in Red Bank before moving to West Long Branch in 1984. During WWII, he served in the US Army-Air Force as an Aerial Gunner. He worked for the US Postal Service for over 30 years, working many years at the Red Bank Post Office before his assignment as Post Master in Colts Neck, where he was positioned until his retirement in 1985. He was a committed volunteer fireman and a 60-Year Volunteer Life Member of the Navesink Hook & Ladder Company in Red Bank. He was also a member of the American Legion, Eatontown Post and was a past President of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE).
Phil is predeceased by his brothers Joseph and Emilio.
Surviving is his loving wife of 57 years, Gertrude (Calandriello); daughters, Patricia of Maplewood, Michele of Cary NC, and Alicia of Tarpon Springs, FL; three grandchildren, Jake, Natalie, and Sofia. He is also survived by his brother Marty of Tavares FL, and sister, Virginia Lopez of Plymouth, NH.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 3-7 pm Monday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 882 Broadway, West Long Branch. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am at the funeral home followed by entombment at Woodbine Mausoleum, Oceanport. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made in Phil’s name to either the Navesink Hook & Ladder Company, Red Bank, or the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
