Obituary for Mary E. Connaughy

Mary E. Connaughy, of Long Branch, went home to heaven on her 85th birthday on Monday, February 1, 2016.
Dearly beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mary’s generosity to her grandchildren knew no bounds. She could often be found serving them a meal or some good advice. During her life-long career as a waitress (Freddie’s Pizzeria, the Hi-Henry Inn, Monmouth Queen Diner and lastly 26 ½ years at Richard’s Deli in West End), Mary was well known and loved by the millions of customers she served. Her daughter affectionately called her “the unofficial social worker of Monmouth County”, as most people she knew would often talk to her regarding things going on in their personal lives. Her job and family were first and foremost in her life, next to her love for her many dogs, especially her shepherd, Sean and her pit-bull, Rufus.
A lifelong resident of Long Branch, moved to Toms River last year. She was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Deal.
She was predeceased by her parents, James and Mary Maguire; her brothers and sisters, Margaret, Agnes, Charlotte, Francis, Grace, Cornelia, James and Patricia and her great-great grandson, Joseph Anthony Corsentino, who died last month.
Surviving are her daughter, Patrice and her husband, Charles Nugent; son, Michael and his wife Suzanne Bruno; 3 grandchildren, Mary Beth Corsentino and Nicole and Michael Bruno and 5 great-grandsons, Thomas, Justin and Vincent Corsentino and Tyler and Joseph Bruno.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 6-9 pm Thursday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township. Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 am Friday at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Deal. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in West Long Branch.
