Obituary for Anne D. Morrissey

Anne Diviney Morrissey, age 75, died peacefully at home on October 9, 2014. She was born in the Queens, NY, and had many wonderful and interesting memories of her childhood up in the Bronx. Anne attended St Joseph’s College, New York City, where she studied early childhood education. She taught at Dow Avenue School before starting a family and later worked as a substitute teacher. Anne derived great joy working in service to others. Her many years of practice in the field of social work provided various opportunities for her to work with the geriatric population – her true passion and vocation. She worked as a social worker in the Geriatric Program at Monmouth Medical Center, and as a Director of Social Services at Holiday Care Center, Toms River. She retired from the Long Branch Senior Center, where she worked as Director of Community Outreach. Until recently, Anne returned to Monmouth Medical Center as a volunteer in the Geriatric Department, where she continued to serve, to learn, to grow and to “organize”, which was a special talent of hers.

Anne was – and is – deeply loved and admired by her family. She is predeceased by her son, Lawrence “Chip” Morrissey, her parents, William P. and Anne H. Diviney, and sister, Maggie Diviney. Anne is survived by her daughters and their spouses – Megan and Rob Goodman, Amy Arietta, Jennifer and Sean Cooper, and Kerri and Justin Bellezza; her 13 grandchildren whom she so enjoyed- Vicki and her husband Dan, Stephen, Erin and her fiancé Jerome, Andrew, Bryan, Luke, Amanda, Hannah, Rachel, Matthew, Emma, Jon and Jessica; and her 4 great-grandchildren- Blaize, Destiny, Finn and Stella; and her siblings and their spouses: William and Sue Diviney, Judy Hutchison, Charles and Peggy Diviney, Dr. Maryann and William Juska, Jeff and Angie Diviney, and Suzi and Mark Mason.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 1 to 5 pm with a service at 4 pm Saturday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 882 Broadway, West Long Branch. In lieu of flowers, we hope that you will consider making a donation in Anne’s memory to The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties – 3300 New Jersey 66, Neptune Township, NJ 07753.
